Louis van Gaal insisted that he is seeing progress from his Manchester United team, despite watching them stutter to a goalless draw at Burnley.

The Red Devils are still without a win under the Dutchman and have only collected two points from a possible nine in the Premier League.

The progress is there but you have to win

Angel Di Maria made his first appearance since his British record move from Real Madrid but was unable to help his new club unlock a stubborn Burnley defence.

“We were the stronger team, certainly in the second half,” Van Gaal told BT Sport.

“We created chances but you have to score. That is where we have failed. The progress is there but you have to win.

“A club like Manchester United has to win. We have two points from nine and that’s disappointing.”

United have now failed to win in four attempts since Van Gaal took over following their 4-0 demolition at the hands of MK Dons in the League Cup second round on Tuesday.

Saturday’s goalless draw came after the Red Devils confirmed that they had agreed a fee with Ajax to sign Daley Blind, subject to a medical.
