Jose Mourinho has reiterated that he wants to keep AC Milan target Fernando Torres at Chelsea.

The Spain international has been heavily linked with a move to the Serie A outfit before the summer transfer deadline next week, although his wage demands are believed to be a stumbling block.

Torres, 30, has fallen further down the pecking order this summer following the £32m signing of Diego Costa and the return of Chelsea legend Didier Drogba to Stamford Bridge.

But Mourinho claimed that Torres has not told the Chelsea manager about his desire to leave the west London side, adding that he wants to have three strikers in his squad.

“What we have clear as a club is that we need three strikers to face this season,” Mourinho told his pre-match media conference ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Everton on Saturday.

“He is one of them. I like him as a person, I like him as a player so that if he wants to leave, it would be something he didn’t say to me until this moment. Our belief for a long time is that the squad is closed.”

Torres has scored 20 goals in 110 Premier League appearances since his £50m move to Chelsea from Liverpool in January 2011.
