Cristiano Ronaldo has warned his Real Madrid team-mates that they are set to face a stern test of their Champions League credentials when they travel to Liverpool in the group stage.

The holders were pitted with Liverpool, Basel and Ludogorets Razgrad in Group B in Thursday’s draw in Monaco as the Reds prepare for their return to the competition for the first time in five years.

I’m looking forward to it. I know Anfield

Brendan Rodgers’ side will host los Blancos at Anfield on 22 October – and former Manchester United star Ronaldo is already looking forward to the showdown.

“If I was going back to Old Trafford, the reception from the fans would be amazing for me,” said Ronaldo. “Going to Liverpool will be very different – wow!

“Of course I know that it’s a very difficult place to go, although I won there a few times with United. They came very close last year to winning the Premier League so we know it’s going to be a very tough game at Anfield.

“For me, knowing it’s going to be the first time, I’m looking forward to it. I know Anfield. But we are Real Madrid.”
