Everton

Tim Howard The Everton shot stopper picked the ball out of his net twice in the first six minutes, and had to collect it from his own goal three more times in the match. In his defence, he didn’t do an awful lot wrong but still conceded five goals, but could have seen red for handling outside the box and for an altercation with Diego Costa and Cesar Azpilicueta. 5/10

Leighton Baines Couldn’t get going down the flank and was unable to stem the flow of Chelsea’s attacking threat. Did well to mark Hazard at times. 6

Seamus Coleman Was unlucky to concede an own goal and was looking sharp for the most part. The pick of Everton’s players despite. 4

Sylvain Distin Was caught napping after 40 seconds for the first goal, and looked seriously short of pace throughout. 5

Phil Jagielka An afternoon to forget for the England defender. Shaky in defence and looked out of his depth. 3

James McCarthy Was unable to handle Fabregas and Matic throughout the match despite trying hard. 5

Aiden McGeady Looked shaky early doors but grew in confidence as the match drew on. Put a great ball in for Naismith in attack. 6

Gareth Barry Lacked the pace to manage to the midfield effectively as Chelsea piled pressure through the centre of the park. 4

Kevin Mirallas Bagged a superb first goal and looked sharp in attack throughout. Snatched at a volley late on which could have proved a difference maker. 7

Romelu Lukaku Couldn’t get the better of Cahill and Terry. Was unable to hold the ball up failed to take advantage of the sparse opportunities he was afforded. 5

Steven Naismith Full of beans for the Toffees and ran with enthusiasm from start to finish. Deserved the goal he eventually got. 7

Substitutes

Muhamed Besic Had an awful introduction and was to blame for Chelsea’s final goal. 2

Samuel Eto’o Impressive contribution off the bench for the veteran against his former club. Got an inevitable goal late on which was thoroughly deserved. 6

Chelsea

Thibaut Courtois Unconvincing performance overall but made a decent late save to deny Mirallas. 5

Cesar Azpilicueta Unable to handle the overlap on his side of the pitch from Coleman in a position not familiar to the full-back. 4

Branislav Ivanovic Bagged Chelsea’s second to put the result out of reach early. Looked fairly solid in defence. 6

John Terry Unable to mark Eto’o for Everton’s third but was his usual solid self with a number of blocks and interceptions at key times. 6

Gary Cahill Superb aerial performance from the England man and regained confidence after being left for dead by Mirallas for the Belgian’s goal. 7

Eden Hazard Quiet for most of the game until he escaped McCarthy’s clutches to force the Coleman own goal. 6

Nemanja Matic Looked solid in the centre of the park and contributed a goal and an assist to his side’s cause. 8

Cesc Fabregas Classy first-half performance from the former Barcelona man, causing the hosts all manor of issues with his clinical through balls. 8

Ramires Competant and faultless performance, kept his discipline in the centre of the park and got the goal to finally put the result beyond doubt. 8

Willian Good link up play to keep Chelsea’s attacking transition fluid before being replaced Obi Mikel. 6

Diego Costa (Man of the match) Showed his class in a match-winning performance from the Spaniard. Two goals of the highest class and a yellow card for his troubles. Left many an Everton player having nightmares after that performance. Sheer unadulterated class. 9

Substitutes

Filipe Luis Came on as a defensive solidifier as the visitors re-established their two goal advantage. 5

John Obi Mikel Brought a bit of substance to the midfield and set up Costa for the closing goal. 6

Didier Drogba Wasn’t afford much time to make an impact and lost possession quite easily for the Blues. Will want to make more of an impact in his next outing. N/A
