Gary Lineker has hailed Daley Blind as a “talented, versatile player” after Manchester United agreed a deal to sign the defender from Ajax.

The Red Devils have been given permission to open talks with the Netherlands international after striking a £13.75m deal with the Eredivise champions.

Blind was one of the stars of the World Cup after impressive performances throughout the tournament, particularly in the Oranje’s 5-1 victory over Spain.

Former Dutch manager, Louis van Gaal, has been linked with a swoop for the full-back since the World Cup ended and the coach took up his Old Trafford role.

And ex-Tottenham Hotspur striker Lineker hailed 24-year-old Blind a good signing ahead of United’s clash against Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday.

Blind scored one goal in 29 top-flight appearances last season.
