Mathieu Flamini has urged Arsenal to make the most of the test posed by Benfica ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Gunners are set to come up against the Europa League runners-up in their Emirates Cup opener on Saturday.

It won’t be an easy game but we are getting closer to the first league match and it’s a good opportunity for us to evaluate how fit we are

Arsenal are heavily fancied to mount a title challenge this season after adding Alexis Sanchez to their squad.

And Flamini believes Benfica will act as a gauge to see how Arsene Wenger’s men are progressing ahead of the new season.

“Benfica are, with Porto, one of the best teams in Portugal,” Flamini told Arsenal’s website.

“They will be a very strong side, they have a lot of quality and it was not a surprise that they qualified for the final of the Europa League.

“They are a strong side that play good football. It won’t be an easy game but we are getting closer to the first league match and it’s a good opportunity for us to evaluate how fit we are.

“It will be an interesting tournament for us.”
