Mauricio Pochettino says it is important that Federico Fazio adapts to Tottenham’s philosophy and squad ahead of a potential debut against Liverpool at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

The Argentina international penned a four-year deal with the north London side on Wednesday after Spurs agreed a £8m deal with Europa League winners Sevilla for the centre-half.

Fazio, who replaces Michael Dawson after the long-serving captain joined Hull City in a £3.5m deal, was introduced to the Tottenham supporters as his new side were 3-0 winners against Limassol on Thursday.

After the 5-1 aggregate win which sealed Spurs’s place in the Europa League group stage, Pochettino was asked if Fazio could make an appearance against Liverpool on Sunday.

Pochettino replied: “I don’t know. Yesterday was the first training session, the player wasn’t in the squad. We will see.

“It is important that he adapts to the squad and the new philosophy. Today [Thursday night] is too early to say if it is possible if he is involved in the squad.”
