Eugenie Bouchard insists that she can still improve her current form, despite reaching the third round of the US Open with victory over Sorana Cirstea of Romania.

The Wimbledon runner-up sealed a 6-2 6-7(4) 6-4 win on a windy evening at Flushing Meadows to set up a meeting with Barbora Zahlavova Strycova of the Czech Republic in the next round.

“I didn’t feel maybe I was as sharp as I wanted to be,” said Bouchard, 20.

“I was happy I could still play pretty solid. But I didn’t feel like I was at my highest level. And she started playing very solid in the second. She was getting a lot of balls back.

“At the end of the day it was really a fight and a battle. But I definitely hope I can improve from this match. I’m definitely not totally satisfied.”

Bouchard admitted that it was an awe-inspiring experience to play in the Arthur Ashe stadium.

“When you toss up [to serve], you expect to see the sky sooner than you do,” she said.

“There are more people, more stands, finally you get up to the sky at the top. It’s really cool playing in such a huge stadium. It’s like nothing else, I guess.”
