Harry Redknapp has revealed that Fabio Borini’s huge wage demands prevented Queens Park Rangers from signing the striker from Liverpool.

The QPR boss had been searching for a new forward on deadline day after the west London club sold Loic Remy to Chelsea over the weekend.

His wages were way, way, way out of reach

The Hoops were able to agree a fee with Liverpool for the transfer of the Italian striker, but Redknapp revealed that they “couldn’t get near” Borini’s wage demands.

“We tried with Fabio Borini,” Redknapp told talkSPORT. “We agreed a deal with Liverpool and everything was sorted with the club but we just couldn’t agree terms with the boy.

“We couldn’t get anywhere near [the wages] he was asking for.

“His wages were way, way, way out of reach. Believe me, they were big wages. We just couldn’t get near him.”

Borini spent last season on loan to Sunderland, where he scored seven goals in 32 Premier League games.

The Black Cats were also interested in signing the 23-year-old on a permanent deal during the transfer window.
