Kevin Pietersen and Michael Vaughan are quick to hail Joe Root after his century at Headingley

Joe Root struck a majestic century in the fifth and final one-day international between England and India at the Yorkshireman’s home ground Headingley as England finally posted a compeitive total.

Root struck a brilliant 113 from just 108 balls as he guided his side to 294-7 from their fifty overs, with the help of Jos Buttler (49), Alastair Cook (46) and Ben Stokes (29*).

Here are some of the best tweets from current and former players among others, reacting to Root’s second ODI hundred.

Former West Indian fast bowler Tino Best (@tino95): “Predicted Root’s rise in world cricket when they were team-mates.Played with the kid @joeroot05 bk in 2010 at Yorkshire told him lil man you will be a star congrats son froggy must be proud.”

Exiled former England batsman Kevin Pietersen was visibly delighted for his former team-mate: “Buzzing for @joeroot05! BOOM!”

Ex-England player Neil Fairbrother tweeted a screen shot of Root from his TV with the words: “Brilliant innings on home soil @joeroot05 !!#roooooooot”

Yorkshire team-mate Adam Lyth (@lythy09) enjoyed the shot Root played to reach his second ODI ton: “Top batting @joeroot05 lovely slog sweet to bring up 100 #Root”
