The Red Devils wrapped up a deal for the 28-year-old in the final hours of deadline day, with the Premier League club possessing the option to make the deal permanent next summer.

And United captain Rooney has welcomed the arrival of the Colombia international, who he rates as one of the best players in the world.

“I don’t know how Falcao’s arrival could affect my role. I think it is a fantastic signing,” Rooney said.

“He is one of the best players in the world. It is a real show of intent by Manchester United.

“It is a thrill. We have an exciting team. I am looking forward to the challenges ahead and I want it to be successful.”

Falcao scored 70 goals in 91 games for Atletico Madrid before joining Monaco last summer.
