Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain describes Mikel Arteta as a 'father figure' in the Arsenal dressing room

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has described Mikel Arteta as Arsenal’s “father figure”.

The Spanish midfielder was named as the north London club’s new captain in the summer following Thomas Vermaelen’s departure to Barcelona.

He’s the captain now so he knows a lot of what’s going on

And Oxlade-Chamberlain says that the 32-year-old is always quick to help new arrivals a the club settle in.

“Mikel is always the father to everyone in the team – the English boys as well,” Oxlade-Chamberlain told Arsenal Player.

“He’s always the go-to guy for the new Spanish players because he’s been around the squad and he’s the captain now so he knows a lot of what’s going on. He’s helped all the Spanish boys out.”

Veteran midfielder Arteta is currently recovering from a calf injury.
