Andy Cole reckons Angel di Maria’s electric start to his Manchester United career is rivalling Dwight Yorke’s immediate impact at Old Trafford.

The Argentina international signed a five-year deal with the Red Devils after United agreed a British record £59.7m deal with Real Madrid for the forward’s services.

The 26-year-old has made an impressive impression in Louis van Gaal’s side since his switch, scoring three goals and making three assists in five Premier League appearances.

And former United striker Cole likened Di Maria’s start to his former striker partner Yorke’s eye-catching goal-scoring form following his move from Aston Villa in 1998.

“I’ll be honest, the only person I’ve seen come to Manchester United and make such a good start was Dwight Yorke,” Cole is quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News.

“I think he scored two goals on his home debut and another goal in the game after that. He has played so well and given a little bit of spark.

“It’s what you always want when you come for that kind of money.

“Everyone is expecting something special and he’s done just that.”

Yorke helped fire United to Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League glory in his first season at Old Trafford following his £13.7m move in 1998.
