Like the Manchester United legend, Balotelli has firmly cemented his place in Premier League folklore after a series of bizarre incidents during his two-and-a-half year stay at Manchester City before quitting Eastlands in 2013.
Cantona, who led United to four Premier League titles and two FA Cups during his Old Trafford career, was banned for eight months by the FA after lashing out at a Crystal Palace fan during United’s clash at Selhurst Park in January 1995.
Whilst Balotelli has earned red cards, usually a result of his famed petulance, during his spell at City, the Italy international has never produced such a dramatic and violent moment of madness like the former France star.
And it is unlikely Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will be too concerned after Balotelli posted a photo on Instagram of him attempting a kung-fu kick on a piece of training apparatus at Melwood on Tuesday.
Balotelli wrote: “@vitorbelfort @giorgiopetrosyan @[email protected] cool?”
Balotelli has scored one goal in nine appearances for Liverpool since his £16m move from AC Milan in the summer, netting against Ludogorets in the Champions League.
