Theo Walcott took to Instagram to express his delight after playing in his first competitive game in nine months.

The England international started his first match since January as he featured for Arsenal’s Under-21 side against Blackburn Rovers on Friday night.

Walcott played the entire first half at Boreham Wood FC’s Meadow Park as he closes in on a return to first-team action.

And the 25-year-old posted the picture above on Instagram after the game and wrote: “Felt great to be back on the pitch after a long 9 months.

“Thanks to all the @arsenal fans for incredible support and all the Arsenal Medical Team.”

Arsenal host Hull City in the Premier League at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
