Arsene Wenger has decided to gamble on Yaya Sanogo after the Arsenal manager named the unproven striker in his line-up for their clash against Borussia Dortmund.

The 21-year-old striker made the side ahead of Costa Rica international Joel Campbell, who scored in the Champions League with Olympiacos last season and netted at this summer’s World Cup.

Sanogo has made three cameo appearances in the Premier League this term, although the French forward has struggled to dislodge Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck.

Here is a selection of the best Twitter reaction from the professionals, past and present, to Wenger’s decision to hand Sangogo a starting spot.

Don Hutchison (@donhutch4): Oh my Days Podolski on the bench and Sanogo starts. Giroud not even registered. Is this a Comedy club. Mickey Flanagan and Lee Evans starts..”

Ex-Man City man Rodney Marsh (@RodneyMarsh10) isn’t kind in his description of Sanogo: “Can’t believe Wenger not starting with Giroud! Sanogo reminds me of a dog chasing a beach ball ….”

Ex-Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong (@IAMFRIMPONG26) is backing the Gunners youngster: “Man like Sonogoal Shine like. A star G”

Finally, Daily Telegraph journalist Jonathan Wilson (@jonawils): Yaya Sanogo has scored 10 goals in his club career. 70% of them came in 2 games between Feb 1 and Feb 8, 2013. A golden age.”
