John Terry has heaped praise on Nemanja Matic following the midfielder’s impressive performances for Chelsea this season.

The Serbia international was named man of the match for his stellar display during the Blues’ 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.

Matic, 26, has been a key cog in the Chelsea midfield to help Jose Mourinho’s men top the Premier League table after 11 games.

And Chelsea captain Terry has been thoroughly impressed by the impact the midfielder has made since his return to Stamford Bridge from Benfica in January.

“He’s been different class since he came back,” said Terry. “He’s a real player for the team.

“The whole team has put in big performances week in, week out but he’s been at the heart of that. He’s been superb.”

Reflecting on Chelsea’s dominant display on Merseyside, Matic said: “We worked very hard. I think everyone in the team deserves this [man of the match] trophy. We are very happy because it was a very important three points.

“It’s difficult to play against us and I hope that will continue. We are playing very well right now, we are working hard every day and we are concentrated.

“We are in a good moment. It’s great for the club and for our fans. I hope they are happy because we are also happy.”
