Jurgen Klopp insisted that Arsenal were fully deserving of their 2-0 victory over his Borussia Dortmund side on Wednesday night.

Goals from Yaya Sanogo and Alexis Sanchez either side of half-time at Emirates Stadium handed the Gunners the three points as Arsene Wenger’s men booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a game to spare.

Sanogo gave the Gunners the lead in just the second minute in north London, and Klopp admitted that his side were made to pay for falling behind so early on.

“It was the worst possible start to concede such a quick goal,” said Klopp.

“There were situations and moments when we did what we wanted but those periods were very short.

“Too many times we were not that great and Arsenal were the deserved winners tonight. We just weren’t good enough.”
