Alexis Sanchez helped Arsenal book their place in the Champions League knockout stage after a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund.

Yaya Sanogo, who was starting ahead of Lukas Podolski in the absence of Danny Welbeck, broke the deadlock in the second minute before Sanchez sealed three points after half-time.

Here is a selection of the best Twitter reaction from the professionals, past and present, in chronological order to Arsenal’s victory.

Former Manchester City man Rodney Marsh (@RodneyMarsh10) is made to look rather silly: “Sanogo reminds me of a dog chasing a beach ball …. Lol!!! Inconceivable”

Looks like Spurs legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) missed Sanogo’s first Champions League goal: “I hear that Sanogo has scored. Hear rather than see as we’ve managed to lock ourselves out of our own home. Such joy!”

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright (@IanWright0) hails the Gunners’s star man: “Alexis our saviour.”

Injured Gunners midfielder Mesut Özil (@MesutOzil1088) praises his talented team-mate: “Yeeeeeeeaaah! Great goal! 2:0! #Alexis #AFCvBOR #COYG #UCL”

More from Lineker: “Wenger out – – > Klopp in.”

Celebrity Arsenal fan Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan): “Excellent win, much improved performance all round. I feel happy, weird sensation. #afc”
