Jose Mourinho doesn’t believe the outcome of Sunday’s League Cup final will have any impact on Chelsea’s Premier League title bid.

The Blues face their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur as Mourinho looks to secure the first silverware of his second reign at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are five points clear at the top of the Premier League, and Mourinho has history when it comes to Premier League and League Cup doubles after winning both competitions in 2005.

However, Mourinho rubbished talk of a potential League Cup final success propelling the west London club to Premier League title glory this season.

“I don’t think about consequence. I don’t think because we win League Cup final that we will then win the league,” Mourinho told a news conference on Friday.

“I don’t think if we lose the League Cup final, we will then lose the league.

“I don’t see connections. I feel, and this is the way I want to do it [in the final], that this is a final that we have to play this game and after that the League Cup is over.”

Mourinho, who signed a three-year deal with Chelsea after he returned to the club in June 2013, won five trophies during his first reign at Stamford Bridge, securing two Premier League titles, two League Cup crowns and the FA Cup.

The Champions League-winning coach believes Chelsea helped the League Cup to become fashionable again after their 3-2 success against Liverpool at Millennium Stadium in 2005.

“We take every cup seriously. Lots of teams follow [our example] since 2004, 2005 and 2006 after we took the League Cup as a real competition,” Mourinho added.

“If you remember the game against Liverpool, Chelsea and Liverpool played to the maximum of their potential.

“We respect every competition and it is a big competition, too.”
