Sakho missed Liverpool’s 2-0 away win against Southampton last weekend, and the centre-half won’t play any part in their Europa League second-leg tie against Besiktas on Thursday night.
However, the Merseyside club will remain hopeful that the defender could feature against Manchester City on Sunday, which appears to be a possibility after Sakho was told he could resume training again.
Sakho wrote on Twitter: “Good news as following the tests I had at the beginning of the week and after the medical staff ‘s opinion, I can go back to training with the group on Saturday!”
Liverpool have a slender lead over Besiktas going into the second-leg following Mario Balotelli’s 85th-minute penalty at Anfield.
The Reds have a small injury crisis with Jordan Henderson, Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Leiva, Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson all out of the game.
Despite such a lengthy injury list, Brendan Rodgers remains positive about his side’s chances of progressing into the last 16.
He said: “We still have a squad strong enough to hopefully get the job complete but we’ve got a few knocks and niggles from the weekend.”
Sakho will play no part in the game either as he continues his recovery but still wished the team good luck ahead of the game.
He said: “I wish good luck to the whole team for tonight!”
