Thibaut Courtois has insisted that Chelsea have the squad depth to be able to cope with the absence of Nemanja Matic in this weekend’s League Cup final.

The Serbia midfielder was sent off against Burnley on Saturday for shoving Ashley Barnes to the ground at Stamford Bridge and will miss Sunday’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

However, Chelsea goalkeeper Courtois believes that Jose Mourinho’s men have enough strength in their squad to cope with the midfielder’s absence, despite conceding that Matic has been a key player for the Blues so far this season.

“We have a difficult game next week and Matic has been very good for us this season,” Courtois told Chelsea TV.

“It’s a pity he can’t play in the final, but of course we have other players who also need to do their job.

“We will still have a strong side, so I don’t think it will be a huge problem, although of course Nemanja will be missed.”

The 26-year-old Matic has scored one goal and made two assists in the Premier League for Chelsea since re-joining the west London club last summer. He has featured in all but one of their top-flight games to help them top the table.

He has also scored twice in the Champions League for the west London club.
