Roy Hodgson has named Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane in his England squad for their games against Italy and Lithuania.

The 21-year-old could make his Three Lions debut later this month after Hodgson named Kane and his Spurs team-mates Andros Townsend and Kyle Walker in his 24-man squad for the upcoming international fixtures.

Kane has scored 26 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions, and the Spurs talisman has netted an impressive 16 times in 25 Premier League games, making him the top-scoring Englishman in the division.

Here is a selection of the best Twitter reaction from the professionals, past and present, in chronological order to Kane’s inclusion in Hodgson’s squad for the first time.

England legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) fully expects the young Spurs striker to become a Three Lions regular over the next couple of years: “Congratulations to @hkane28 on his first England call up. The first of many.”

Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith (@9smudge) puts club rivalry to one side to pay credit to the Spurs forward: “With deserved inclusion of Harry Kane, England’s attacking options beginning to look a bit more like it.”

Tottenham hall of famer Ray Clemence (@RayClem1) is under no illusion that Kane merited his call up to the senior side after his impressive goal-scoring form: “Congratulations to Harry Kane @SpursOfficial for his promotion to senior squad well deserved.”

Finally, Spurs defender Kyle Walker (@kylewalker2) is thrilled to make Hodgson’s 24-man squad and is delighted to be joined by his team-mate Kane: “Always an honour to be given the chance to represent my country. Congrats @hkane28 on your call up, well deserved.”
