The 63-year-old spent over £150m on new signings last summer, including Netherlands international Daley Blind, £27m-rated midfielder Ander Herrera and British-record £59.7m signing Angel di Maria.
Van Gaal has already been linked with big-money moves for Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels and Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale at the end of the season to strengthen his United squad.
However, former AC Milan midfielder Seedorf, who played under Van Gaal in the Dutch national team, reckons his old manager can cultivate the exciting talent that United have coming through their ranks.
“For sure he is a coach who knows how to pass on his philosophy to his teams,” Seedorf told MUTV. “And I think what you have seen that with the Ajax spirit when I played there – that’s Van Gaal.
“Instead of buying many players you can always fill your first team with your own players who know the club culture, who know the club tactics and have lived for so long that everything for them is natural.
“He is a great coach and his record speaks for itself.”
The Red Devils occupy the final Champions League qualifying spot and are five points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool after a 2-1 victory at Anfield in their last Premier League outing.
Van Gaal’s side face Aston Villa at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday.
