Leonardo Jardim accused Arsene Wenger of showing him disrespect after Monaco knocked Arsenal out of the Champions League.

The Ligue 1 side progressed to the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition at the expense of the north London club, despite losing the second leg 2-0 at Stade Louis II on Tuesday night.

Maybe Arsenal thought they had qualified already

The damage was done by Jardim’s side in the first leg at Emirates Stadium, when Monaco secured a surprise 3-1 win in north London last month.

Jardim claimed that Wenger opted not to shake his hand after the first leg, and so the Monaco manager returned the snub on Tuesday night.

“In the first leg, when I wanted to thank Arsène and shake his hand, it’s true that Arsène didn’t shake my hand, so even though Monaco did everything to make life comfortable for Arsenal tonight, I decided not to thank him,” Jardim told his post-match news conference.

“I think it was disrespectful. Right now, we’re celebrating and we think Arsenal did not show enough respect during the first leg.

“Arsenal were really happy to play Monaco as we were supposed to be one of the weakest teams. We qualified from pot four.

“All the teams in the last 16 wanted to play against Monaco. Maybe Arsenal thought they had qualified already.”

Olivier Giroud gave the north London side hope of a famous comeback when he finished high into the net in the 36th minute at Stade Louis II.

Substitute Aaron Ramsey then drilled home from inside the box in the 79th minute but Arsenal were unable to find the crucial third goal.
