Fernando Torres says he is looking forward to making his return to Anfield after the Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard drafted in the striker for his charity match on 29 March.

The 30-year-old sealed a return to his boyhood club Atletico Madrid in the January transfer window after he left the Spanish capital to join Liverpool in 2007.

Torres, who played for Chelsea and AC Milan before his Los Rojiblancos homecoming, scored 65 goals in 102 Premier League appearances for the Merseyside outfit.

The Atletico striker took to Instagram on Friday morning to thank his former team-mate for his inclusion in the special charity match at Anfield.

Torres wrote: “It will be fantastic to be back at Anfield and meet a lot of friends again. Thanks Gerrard for the invite!”

Torres scored 81 times in 141 games for Liverpool in all competitions before the World Cup winner controversially completed a £50m move to Chelsea in January 2011.
