Jose Enrique appears to be drawing inspiration from Liverpool fans after the defender reposted a photo of him as a matador ahead of his return to playing action.

The uncapped Spain international has been sidelined for most of the season with a series of niggling knee injuries despite making a short-lived comeback in January.

Enrique hasn’t made an appearance since a 2-0 victory over Sunderland at Anfield on 17 January, although the left-back made a return to first-team training earlier this month.

The 29-year-old was clearly impressed with a supporter’s imaginative Instagram photo of the defender as a bullfighter, accompanied by the following caption: “No getting past our El Toro Jose Enrique.”

The Liverpool star enjoyed a holiday in Dubai last week after the defender failed to make Brendan Rodgers’ match day squad for their 2-1 defeat by bitter rivals Manchester United.

Enrique helped Liverpool to win the League Cup in 2012 under Kenny Dalglish before current manager Brendan Rodgers was appointed as the Scot’s successor.
