Robin van Persie took to social media on Thursday morning to pay tribute to his 94-year-old grandfather as the Manchester United striker continues his rehabilitation from injury.

The Dutch forward has been out of action since the defeat by Swansea City after picking up an ankle problem during the loss at Liberty Stadium on 21 February.

However, the forward is closing in on a comeback and used Instagram to thank his grandfather, Wim, for his support over the years.

Van Persie shared the picture above on the photo-sharing app and wrote: “My grandfather Wim supporting me at a game with Oranje last year. 94 and still looking sharp!”

Van Persie has scored 10 Premier League goals and made two assists for the Red Devils so far this season.

Manchester United take on Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Sunday looking to keep up their bid for Champions League qualification.

The Red Devils are currently fourth in the Premier League table, one point behind third-placed Arsenal, who beat United in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Monday night.
