Was it planned that way? During Roger Federer’s latest Q and A session on Twitter, this latecomer to the medium made his 1,000th tweet.

Such is the panache with which he took to Twitter—expanding his repertoire of witty hashtags with increasing numbers of selfies and swathes of emojis—that Federer has set the benchmark as Tweeter par excellence on the tennis tour. It seems more than a coincidence, then, that his latest and longest #AskRF should conclude with:

“This is my 1,000th tweet… I’ve had a lot of fun since I joined you guys here.”

Yes, Federer trends, and he trends big: top of ‘Worldwide’ for a while at midday in New York, 4pm in London, and 9am across on the west coast where his twin-packed apartment no doubt had the laptop set to Twitter, too.

And it was a question about his penchant for twins that produced one of the best replies among the many. And that, with a selection of the rest of the best, will have to suffice until he gets back to Indian Wells—where, before long, he will no doubt tweet a couple of sun-drenched pics from the most photogenic venue in tennis.

And after almost an hour and half of hundreds of unanswered questions and thousands of ‘favourite’ hits for the couple of dozen he did manage to answer, Federer was gone, with ‘See you soon’ and, of course, the obligatory emoji.
