Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Pedro after Barcelona sporting director Ariedo Braida insisted the forward isn’t for sale.

The Merseyside outfit had been linked with a swoop for the Spain international as Brendan Rodgers attempts to strengthen his attacking options at Anfield.

Pedro has struggled to secure a regular starting spot in Luis Enrique’s first-team this season, making just 13 starts in La Liga over the course of the campaign.

However, Barcelona chief Braida is adamant that the Catalan side aren’t looking to sell the 27-year-old attacking midfielder in the summer transfer window.

“Pedro is, and will remain, a Barcelona player,” Braida told FC Inter News.

“He’s a very important player for us, and will not leave in the summer. He has a contract, and will remain at Camp Nou, even more so since we have a transfer ban.

“Could he leave in January? I don’t think so. He’ll definitely stay until January. I repeat: he’s an important player, and will stay at Barcelona.”

The two-time Champions League winner has scored six goals and has made five assists in 33 La Liga appearances this term.

However, Pedro has come off the bench in 20 of those league games, struggling to dislodge Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.
