Suarez Navarro earlier upset second seed Simona Halep to win 2-6 6-3 7-5 in two hours and 29 minutes in the Italian capital and be the first name to book her place in the final.
“It was really tough,” said Navarro after her win. “I know that we are breaking all the time the serve but we both returned really good.
“We were playing really good tennis, it was tough for me and tough for Simona but I’m happy.
“I was practicing really hard during the whole season, maybe that’s why I feel also with more confidence. I try to play more aggressive, this is important to play with the best players.”
