Chelsea transfers: Five strikers Jose Mourinho should target

Shona Duthie examines five strikers Chelsea could sign in the summer transfer window

Karim Benzema

The Frenchmen scored 15 goals and 10 assists in 29 games in quite a successful campaign at The Bernabeu last season. The 27-year-old could easily fill the gap in the Chelsea team should star striker Diego Costa become injured. Having featured as a lone striker at Real Madrid and also having played under Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho in the Spanish capital, he has experience within this central role. It could be a highly-anticipated move after it has been suggested Los Blancos are already searching for replacements.

Radamel Falcao

Radamel Falcao could also regain his impressive stamina before his serious knee injury halted his blossoming career. His debut season in the Premier League with Manchester United did not quite living up to expectations as he scored only four goals in 26 appearances. But could Mourinho work his wonders and help Falcao to get back to his own level? Reports suggest that Chelsea are keen to sign the Colombian forward on a loan deal, but the player is seeking a more permanent deal. This signing could allow Chelsea to have three dominant strikers in their team when playing to their highest quality.

Harry Kane

A home-grown talent, just 21 and a debut first-team season of 21 goals in the Premier League, Harry Kane could add that killer edge and fear to the Chelsea side that could see them dominate the English top-flight for years to come. Being Tottenham’s top goal-scorer throughout the season and his cracking double against Chelsea at White Hart Lane, could he be the English talent Mourinho is looking for? However, Tottenham would be reluctant to sell their youth graduate to a London rival and it would cost around £45m for the England international, who is now a wanted man by many top tier clubs.

Thomas Muller

The Germany international needs no introduction. Chelsea could do no better than to sign the Bayern Munich striker which could ultimately lead to league, cup and Champions League titles. Muller has won the Bundesliga four times, the Champions League once and is a Fifa World Cup winner, which makes him no stranger to the pressure to win. In his debut season for Bayern he scored 13 goals in 34 appearances and has continued that prolific form. If Roman Abramovich is willing to cough up £120m, Chelsea could have another star man in their midst to help Diego Costa and Loic Remy. He could also strike up a fantastic partnership with Chelsea’s no 10. Eden Hazard.

Christian Benteke

Christian Benteke is a similar build and style to recent Chelsea legend departure Didier Drogba, Chelsea would have to pay £32m for the Belgian man who has been in terrific form since the arrival of new manager Tim Sherwood. Benteke has a presence in the box that can be tiresome on any defence duo. Mourinho liked the threat that Drogba posed in the box and Benteke could fill that void that has been left by the Ivorian. However, Villa are keen to keep their star man and Chelsea would have to entice the striker to move. It is only a matter of time before Aston Villa sell their prized asset.
