Dietmar Hamann believes Liverpool forward Jordon Ibe can become a better player than Manchester City signing Raheem Sterling.

The 20-year-old winger completed a £49m move to the Citizens from Liverpool last week after months of intense speculation linking Sterling with a big-money move away from Anfield.

Ibe, who signed a new long-term deal at the Merseyside club earlier this month, could be a potential option to fill the void left by Sterling in the first-team next term.

And former Liverpool midfielder Hamann believes Ibe will blossom into one of England’s outstanding talents in the coming season.

Hamann wrote on Twitter following Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Adelaide United: “Ibe is a special talent. He’s got every attribute an offensive player needs. A player England lacked in last 20 years.”

Quizzed whether Ibe could develop into a better player than fully-fledged England international Sterling, Hamann added: “Sterling a better player now but Ibe got lots of improvement in him. Could be anything, ”

Sterling scored seven goals and made seven assists in 35 Premier League appearances last season.
