Hugo Lloris should hold out for a move to the best English clubs and turn down Manchester United, according to the goalkeeper’s former manager.

The France international has been touted as potential target for United manager Louis van Gaal amid growing uncertainty surrounding David De Gea’s future.

I think United is with Tottenham, with the other clubs. Not one of the biggest clubs, so there’s no difference.

The Red Devils shot stopper has been linked with a switch to Real Madrid which open up the number one position at Old Trafford despite the presence of Victor Valdes.

However, former France head coach Domenech reckons Lloris would be making a sideways step if he moves from Tottenham Hotspur to United.

“I have no decision to take for him, but in my opinion he has to play in Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester City, to play in the European Cup,” Domenech is quoted as saying by ESPN.

“Tottenham is a big club – it is not the biggest. Manchester United qualified for the Champions League, but I can’t see really the difference with Tottenham.

“For me, it’s Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester City. Because I think Manchester United is no more a big club, in England, for me. I think like that.

“I think Arsenal will be every time a big club, Chelsea also – City is becoming a big club – but I think United is with Tottenham, with the other clubs. Not one of the biggest clubs, so there’s no difference. For me, he’s a great goalkeeper so he needs to be in the best English club, or French, or Italian, or German.”

Lloris has made 114 appearances for the north London side since his £12m move to Tottenham from Lyon in 2012.

The France captain is still waiting to win silverware with the Premier League side following his big-money switch.
