The Netherlands international has been getting used to life at the Old Trafford club after joining up with his new team-mates for their pre-season tour of the United States this month.
Depay scored his first United goal in Tuesday night’s 3-1 pre-season victory over the San Jose Earthquakes.
And the 21-year-old has emphasised his aim to write his name into United folklore over the coming seasons.
Depay told Sky Sports News HQ: “I’m honest – of course I want to be a legend.
“I will put pressure on myself to play good every game. I’m still young, I have to improve, the Premier League is different so we will see.
“I have to do my job, so then yeah, maybe in time I can be a legend. But to have those positive sounds from the fans and the legends that talk about me, I’m grateful for that.”
Depay is one of four new arrivals at Manchester United this summer, with the Red Devils having also signed Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin in recent weeks.
The Red Devils are next in action on their pre-season tour of the United States against Champions League holders Barcelona on 25 July, before concluding their-pre-season preparations with a clash against Paris Saint-Germain on 30 July.
