Lukas Podolski was quick to congratulate his former Arsenal team-mate Alexis Sanchez on Chile’s Copa America triumph.

The 26-year-old Gunners forward helped the hosts win their first-ever Copa America crown after he scored the winning penalty in their shootout victory over Argentina on Saturday night.

Arsenal target Arturo Vidal, Matias Fernandez, Charles Aranguiz and Sanchez dispatched their spot-kicks, whilst Barcelona striker Lionel Messi was the only Argentina player to convert his effort.

And Germany international Podolski posted a snap with Sanchez from his spell at The Emirates along with a congratulatory message.

Podolski wrote on the photo-sharing app: “Congrats to my Chilean bro for winning the copa America #alexis #CopaAmerica #bro @alexis_officia1 #amigo #humber”

Sanchez scored one goal and made one assist in six appearances in Copa America.

The Chile star made the move to Arsenal from Barcelona in a £35m deal from Barcelona last summer.
