The Belgium international has put pen to paper on a long-term deal which sees Benteke become Liverpool’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window.
Benteke was linked with the Merseyside club’s bitter rivals Manchester United as well as north London duo Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
However, the 24-year-old has become Liverpool’s second-most expensive signing in their history just behind Andy Carroll, who cost £35m in 2011.
Benteke scored 49 goals in 101 appearances for Aston Villa after he moved to the Birmingham side from Genk in a £7m deal in 2012.
The giant Belgian scored 12 goals in his last 13 games under Villa manager Sherwood to keep the Birmingham side in the Premier League.
Liverpool have already signed Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne, goalkeeper Adam Bogdan, England midfielder James Milner, Brazilian Roberto Firmino, Charlton youngster Joe Gomez and Burnley striker Danny Ings this summer.
