Tottenham transfers: Three reasons Javier Hernandez would be good signing

Josh Phillips takes a look at three reasons why Javier Hernandez would be a good signing for Tottenham Hotspur

Goal-scoring

Javier Hernandez is quite simply a goal-scorer. His ability to find the back of the net on such a regular basis would be welcomed by any team, not least by a side who need more goals to push for a top four finish. The man known as Chicharito has found the net an impressive 110 times for club and country in a ten-year career. His first four seasons in English football saw him bag 59 goals including 20 in his first Premier League campaign, showing that he wouldn’t take any time to hit the ground running at White Hart Lane.

Big-game experience

Hernandez has spent the last five seasons at Old Trafford and The Bernabeu, two coliseums of world football. Add to that his two World Cup experiences with Mexico and you have a player who has been there and done it all, someone who won’t be fazed by big games such as the north London derby. While a move to Tottenham may seem like a step down from his time spent in Manchester and Madrid, Hernandez is still to prove that he can start games week in week out and be effective over the full course of a season. A move to North London would enable him to do just that.

Age

Despite being well travelled and having plenty of big game experience, time is still on Hernandez’s side. At the age of 27, he is coming into his prime over the next two to three seasons and goal poachers such as himself can often go on scoring goals at a high level far beyond their late twenties. However, by getting him now Spurs would still be signing a player with decent pace and a relatively clear injury record. By the time of the 2018 World Cup, Chicharito will be 30 so it’s fair to say he will want to stay in excellent shape and consistent goal scoring form between now and then.
