The 33-year-old Gunners goalkeeper made six saves to help Arsenal keep a clean sheet as Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil fired the home side to their first Champions League victory of the season.
Arsene Wenger won’t admit it but Cech gives so much reassurance to everyone when he’s making save after save
Cech was controversially omitted from Arsene Wenger’s side for their previous Champions League game, which the FA Cup holders lost 3-2 to Olympiacos at Emirates Stadium.
Former Arsenal midfielder Nicholas heaped praise on the £11m summer signing after his saves gave Arsenal the springboard to go on and secure a crucial three points.
“He played him tonight and he’s made four or five outstanding saves, all when the games was 0-0. It was enormous,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
“Arsene Wenger won’t admit it but Cech gives so much reassurance to everyone when he’s making save after save. Arsenal can make mistakes and he’ll still keep them in the game. That’s what he did, and they ended up winning 2-0.”
Cech joined Arsenal in an £11m deal from defending Premier League champions Chelsea in the summer transfer window after falling out-of-favour under Jose Mourinho.
The Arsenal shot stopper has kept three successive clean sheets in victories over bitter rivals Manchester United, newly-promoted Watford and German champions Bayern Munich.
