Hector Bellerin admits that moving to London was a “really hard” experience for the defender as he looked to establish himself as a regular in the Arsenal first team.

Bellerin has been a regular fixture in Arsene Wenger’s starting line-up since breaking into the Gunners side last season.

The Spaniard joined Arsenal from Barcelona at the age of 16 and has since established himself as one of the north London club’s most promising youngsters.

However, the 20-year-old has revealed that it was not an easy journey as he prepares to return to Watford – where he spent six weeks on loan in the 2013-14 season – with the Gunners this weekend.

Bellerin told Goal: “For me, my first season was a big one and the fact we got the FA Cup was a big thing, to feel and taste what it’s like to win a trophy makes you want it more.

“It’s definitely been a hard journey, one with lots of ups and downs. Moving to London, for example, was a really hard thing for me, but I had a lot of support from family, friends and the club and I’m really happy that I made that step and came here.

“Arsenal is a club that likes to bring through young players, that’s something that always gets the fans excited, to see someone from home come and play for the first team.

“I think that’s something that every team should do. The fact that Arsenal does it a lot and that I’m one of them, I’m really proud.”

The Spaniard played the full 90 minutes as goals from Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil wrapped up a 3-0 victory for the Gunners against Manchester United in north London before the international break to move them up to second in the table.
