Arsene Wenger has hinted that he could rest a number of first-team regulars when Arsenal host Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Gunners head into the game needing a victory to keep alive their hopes of reaching the knockout phase of Europe’s elite club competition after losing their opening two group games.

Wenger watched Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil impress as the north London side secured an impressive 3-0 win at Watford on Saturday to move into second place in the Premier League.

However, the Gunners boss has suggested that both Sanchez and Ozil could be given a rest when Arsenal take on the Bundesliga side at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night.

Asked if he could make changes to his team for Tuesday’s game, Wenger told his post-match news conference on Saturday: “I don’t know yet but obviously there is no obvious reason to change completely the team.

“Maybe one or two I do not know yet. We will have to see how everybody recovers.

“I could rest a little bit Ozil and Sanchez and we have of course to put pace into this game and play against a big team, but we know we have proved ourselves in the Champions League.

“We want to make something special against Bayern Munich as it is the only way we can keep in the race.”

The win over Watford left Arsenal two points behind leaders Manchester City after three games.
