Charlie Nicholas has backed Arsenal to beat Bayern Munich in their must-win Champions League game on Tuesday night.

The Gunners welcome the Bundesliga holders to Emirates Stadium as Arsene Wenger’s side look to secure their first win of this season’s Champions League campaign.

Bayern will want to play an open game of football and look to Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller to pick them off, but that will suit Arsenal with the way they are playing right now

The north London side lost to Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos in their opening two group-stage games, whilst Bayern have won 12 successive games this term.

However, former Arsenal playmaker Nicholas believes Wenger’s men are capable of exploiting Bayern despite having lost their last two games against the German champions in north London.

“Bayern have won every game in the Bundesliga, averaging three goals a game, we know that, but anyone that watches them, which I do quite a bit, will know that you can get at them,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.

“They’ve chopped and changed quite a bit at the back and they had David Alaba, who is a left-back, playing at centre-back at the weekend and Manuel Neuer makes their defence look better than they are.

“Bayern will want to play an open game of football and look to Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller to pick them off, but that will suit Arsenal with the way they are playing right now, especially with Theo Walcott’s pace and movement.

“It’s a must-win situation for Arsenal, I don’t think a draw is good enough, but I do believe they can get the three points.”

Bayern have scored eight goals with no reply in their first two fixtures, winning 3-0 at Olympiacos and 5-0 at home to Dinamo.

Arsenal’s home record against German clubs is W10 D1 L5; overall it is W15 D6 L11.

The Bundesliga outfit have won on their last two visits to Arsenal, which were both round of 16 first-leg assignments.

Arsenal head into the game on the back of their win over Watford in the Premier League on Saturday evening, leaving them two points behind leaders Manchester City.
