Ashley Young is back in training but will not be ready for Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Manchester City on Sunday, Louis van Gaal has revealed.

The 30-year-old England international has not featured for the Red Devils since the 3-0 loss to Arsenal earlier this month and despite edging closer to a return to action, he will not be ready for the derby showdown at Old Trafford.

The United boss also confirmed to MUTV that Luke Shaw and Paddy McNair are the only other two injured players ahead of the visit of Manuel Pellegrini’s men on Sunday afternoon.

Shaw has been out of action since breaking his leg at PSV Eindhoven in September, while defender Paddy McNair has not featured for United since he suffered an injury while playing in Northern Ireland’s final Euro 2016 qualifying match in Finland.

Ander Herrera has been passed fit for the clash despite appearing to pick up a heavy knock in the closing stages of United’s 3-0 win over Everton last weekend.
