Luis Garcia has wished Liverpool defender Joe Gomez a speedy recovery after the England Under-21 star suffered a cruciate ligament injury.

The 19-year-old defender was substituted in the 80th minute of England Under-21 side’s 3-0 victory over Kazakhstan on Tuesday night after he suffered the serious injury blow.

Gomez, who started the first four Premier League games of the season under Brendan Rodgers, looks set to be sidelined for the first six months of Jurgen Klopp’s Reds reign.

Former Liverpool midfielder Garcia, who was part of the Champions League-winning side in 2005, wished the young full-back a speedy recovery.

Gomez moved to Liverpool in a reported £3.5m deal from Charlton Athletic in the summer transfer window.

The Liverpool defender made his debut in a 1-0 victory over Stoke City at Britannia Stadium on the opening day of the season.
