Jurgen Klopp says he is confident Liverpool duo Christian Benteke and Daniel Sturridge can form a deadly strike partnership.

The Reds striker have only started one game together before Benteke picked up an injury in a 1-1 draw with Norwich City last month.

Sturridge is currently sidelined with a knee injury which is expected to keep him out-of-action for the visit of Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

Benteke made his return to action against Rubin Kazan in a goalless draw on Thursday night, and Klopp is confident he can accommodate the Belgian and Sturridge in the same side when the latter is fit.

“All good players can play together,” Klopp told his pre-match media conference on Friday afternoon.

“It depends how they work for the team. We cannot play with two or three offensive players if they stay up front and we defend with only seven.

“When they are fit, that’s when I really have to think about this, but for sure they can play together. We have to think about how we can do the rest of the team.”

Benteke has scored two goals in five Premier League appearances following his £32.5m move from Aston Villa to Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Sturridge scored twice in a 3-2 victory over Villa after making his return from a hip operation last month but the striker suffered a fresh injury blow after clashing with Jordon Ibe in training.
