Arsene Wenger’s men head into the game knowing that victory over the Merseyside outfit would move them top of the Premier League table ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby clash at Old Trafford.
The north London side warmed up for Saturday evening’s game with a thrilling 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Gunners also sealed a 3-0 win over Watford last weekend to keep to within two points of Premier League leaders Manchester City.
And former Arsenal man Merson feels that the Gunners will be too strong for Roberto Martinez’s men, although he expects the visitors to frustrate Wenger’s side for large spells of the game.
Merson told Sky Sports: “This is one of those games for Arsenal. The Man Utd and Bayern Munich games don’t concern me, I know they are going turn up but with this one you’re not quite sure which Arsenal are going to turn up.
“This is a real banana skin for me, Everton will stick ten behind the ball and try counter Arsenal with the pace of Barkley and Lukaku.
“Everton had to attack Man Utd last weekend whereas they don’t have to at the Emirates.
“They are a hard team to break down but I think Arsenal will win, although it will be interesting to see how the game pans out. This is a big football match for the Arsenal.”
Everton lost 3-0 to Manchester United at Goodison Park last weekend.
