Paul Scholes says Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United side have no quality.

The Red Devils came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw with CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday night after Anthony Martial cancelled out Seydou Doumbia’s first-half opener.

The 20-time English champions registered just three shots in target with Wayne Rooney missing a good chance after half-time, while the home side tested David De Gea on four occasions.

Former United midfielder Scholes believes a lack movement is making it difficult for Van Gaal’s attacking players to break down opposition defences.

“You look at the United team, there is no quality, no movement. People are not running. Is it the way they are told to play?” Scholes told BT Sport.

“It’s all safety playing across the pitch. I can’t remember a pass in to Wayne Rooney. There is no movement.

“You’ve got midfield players who can run — Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingaard, Anthony Martial — stick the ball into Rooney and run but there’s not one of them even thinking of running.”

The three-time European champions are two points behind Group F leaders Wolfsburg following their stalemate in Russia ahead of the return trip at Old Trafford next month.
