The Czech Republic international produced one of the best performances of his Arsenal career so far after the 33-year-old made six saves in a 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League at The Emirates on Tuesday night.
It’s more out of respect for Petr Cech and what he has done for Chelsea that they decided to let him go
Cech moved to the north London side in an £11m deal from defending Premier League champions Chelsea after falling out-of-favour under Blues manager Jose Mourinho last term.
Queens Park Rangers shot stopper Green reckons the Blues decided to sell Cech to their bitter rivals due to the experienced goalkeeper’s contribution to their success over the past 11 years.
“Cech had a difficult debut, but after that he has shown what a quality goalkeeper he really is. They were all fantastic saves [against Munich], he just shows what a difference a good goalkeeper can make,” Green told Sky Sports News.
“Chelsea were in a difficult position obviously with the form of Thibaut Courtois, the potential longevity of his career being there. They made that decision.
“It’s more out of respect for Petr Cech and what he has done for Chelsea that they decided to let him go. He is proving his worth for Arsenal.”
Cech has kept three successive clean sheets in victories over Manchester United, Watford and Bayern.
Second-placed Arsenal will welcome Roberto Martinez’s Everton side to Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
