Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that winning the Treble in 1999 was the finest moment of his Manchester United career.

The Scot led the Red Devils to 13 Premier League titles during a decorated 25-year career at Old Trafford as well as two Champions League crowns, five FA Cups and four League Cups.

So it was an amazing moment and it reflected also the character of Manchester United; they never gave in. That was the greatest example in the final

Sir Alex Ferguson

Ferguson stood down as United manager in May 2013 after the former Aberdeen manager led the Red Devils to their 20th top-flight crown ahead of bitter rivals Manchester City.

And unsurprisingly, the former United manager named the club’s Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League triumphs in 1999 as his favourite moment during his distinguished spell in charge of the Red Devils.

Ferguson told ESPN FC: “People continually say to me ‘what was your finest moment?’ and it’s always Barcelona (the 1999 Champions League final). There’s no need to delve into other situations because that, to me, was the crowning moment in terms of I’d never won the Champions League before.

“I’d won the Cup Winners’ Cup twice but I had never won the Champions League. That was a great moment and the way we did it will never be forgotten, 1-0 down with three minutes left in injury time and we win it. So it was an amazing moment and it reflected also the character of Manchester United; they never gave in. That was the greatest example in the final.”

Louis van Gaal’s Red Devils are currently third in the Premier League table after a 3-0 loss to bitter rivals Arsenal in their most-recent top-flight game.
