Louis van Gaal hasn’t improved any of the Manchester United players since taking over at Old Trafford, according to Jermaine Jenas.

The Red Devils hadn’t won any of their last seven games in all competitions ahead of Monday evening’s clash against bitter rivals Chelsea.

It’s not so much a case of Van Gaal ‘losing the dressing room’, but more the fact that he seems unable to get the best out of his players

United target Harry Kane has scored more Premier League goals this season than Red Devils trio Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay combined.

In fact, the England captain has struggled to find any consistent form since the Dutchman was appointed as David Moyes’s permanent successor in 2014.

Jenas, who played for Newcastle United, Queens Park Rangers and Tottenham Hotspur during his playing career, believes United’s players are actually worse under Van Gaal than his predecessor, Moyes.

“What players want is a manager that will make them a better player,” Jenas told Yahoo Sport.

“But with the exception of Chris Smalling, there is nobody at Old Trafford who has improved under the Van Gaal. In fact, everybody has got worse.

“It’s not so much a case of Van Gaal ‘losing the dressing room’, but more the fact that he seems unable to get the best out of his players. Nothing he has tried seems to work, dropping Wayne Rooney today being the latest example.”

United haven’t won any silverware under Moyes or Van Gaal. The Red Devils’s last trophy was the Premier League title in May 2014.
